Meet Jon, Jake, Anthony, and Patrick
from Southwest House

Jon, Jake, Anthony, and Patrick live in one of Hiawatha’s homes. All four of these young men lead very active lives. Here’s what they wanted you to know about them.
Jon enjoys working Mondays through Fridays on an ABC cleaning crew that cleans Any Time Fitness, People of Hope Church, and Good Shepherd Church. He finds window cleaning to be very relaxing. He also stated that he is a positive worker. One of his goals is to lose weight, which he has been doing by calories and exercising. He likes exercising with hand weights and doing sit ups and pushups on the exercise ball. Last year Jon took a trip to Chicago with his mother where he visited an old elementary teacher and went to Six Flags. Jon recently enjoyed going to the Water Park of America with his housemates and friends from Lincolnshire House. Jon shared that his hobbies are shopping, being on his computer, and talking on the phone. Jon attended Disability Day at the Capitol on February 4th (sponsored by ARC) to voice his concern on budget cuts. He is proud to help out any possible way that he can.
Jake works at PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota (POSM) and Relion where he files papers. His hobbies are riding his bike, fishing, hunting, playing video games, and reading wrestling magazines. Jake wants people to know that he is a good person, and that he would like to become more independent. Last year he went on a trip to Las Vegas with his support staff. Jake said the best part of the trip was seeing Hoover Dam. Jake also went to the Water Park of America where he really enjoyed Adam Jewell’s company (from Lincolnshire). Jake wants people to know that he is practicing his swim strokes for the Special Olympics. Jake and staff all say that Jake swims like a fish.
Anthony works for Target as a cart attendant. Last year Anthony received the Explorer Award for Exceptional Job Performance at the POSM banquet. He wants people to know that he is a very social guy. Anthony is on a Park-N-Rec basketball team, softball team, and floor hockey team. He also plans on doing the Polar Plunge on Valentine’s Day. Besides being busy with sports and work Anthony likes to hang out with his family and his friend Tim, watch 90210 and sports on TV (Go Twins), watch horror flicks, and play Guitar Hero.
Patrick (known as Pat) works at the Kasson High School cafeteria doing dishes. He gets support from Opportunity Services while working. Before the holidays Pat was able to purchase a Play Station III, which he really enjoys. Last year Pat received a cooking trophy at a cook off at the Eyota Market. He made bok choy salad, which everyone at the house loves. He also participated in the Rochesterfest Parade, walking with the float and handing out candy. In 2008 he and Jon with help from staff Robin decorated a tree, Gingerbread Holidays, for the Festival of Trees. Pat worked hard on it and it turned out great. Pat enjoys going swimming, watching movies, going for walks, cooking, and visiting friends.
